WALL VIVE! The antique beauty...
This is Wall Vive. I originally wanted to call it "Tiquee". Wall Vive was at one point an antique curio cabinet. It had no door, no glass back, and a few ugly shelves when I bought it for $15 at an antique store. This one took me about 2 months to complete. The base is constructed of a plexiglass panel affixed to the front, then the entire basin is covered in water putty. A layer of pea sized gravel gives the substrate good drainage. Soft air conditioner filter keeps my home made recipe of "soil" from leaching into the gravel. This vivarium contains 3 different types of ivies, a few pothos, some epiphytes and more. It has a 25 watt full spectrum incandescent lamp on top with a heating pad behing the glass backing. Wall Vive holds a pair of green tree frogs [Hyla cinerea], and a caribbean anole [Anolis sangrei] we call "Ackee"*. Sometimes I wonder if they want to jump on to the ivy plant hanging beside it.
:)
If you look hard enough, you can see the little treefrog in the leaf cup. Ackees' tail is longer than his body! It is his original tail, he has never automotized* it. :)
Some close ups of the green treefrogs.. look at the granular skin on that little anuran!

Here are the two treefrogs. They usually hang out together.

Here's the latest addition (1/30/03) to Wall Vive, this is a Gold Bell Treefrog (also known as growling grass frog) Litoria aurea. This cute little frog from Australia is capable of chameleon-like color changes with mood and gorgeous gold dorsal stripes.
